History
The breed was developed in Ireland several hundred years ago. They were developed as a farm vermin controller and companion, roles at which it excels. It is important to note that although this is a dog with a soft, fluffy coat, the breed was developed from working stock and with working purposes in mind. It is indeed a faithful companion, but if not actively working as a farm dog/vermin controller, etc, it needs to be given ample stimulation - such as daily play, walks and so on. The breed is not a "layabout" type dog and needs to be treated accordingly.
Positives
The dog is a playful larrikin - and still a good vermin controller to boot! They love to interact and play with their family, and are good companions for active children
Negatives
The breed must be given the opportunity to run and play outside on a regular basis, otherwise can become bored and destructive. Their exercise needs are not suitable for every family.
